RickRick sold his 1968 Datsun truck when he was 18. It was the only way he could pay for the repairs. He spent nearly a whole day in a bicycle shop in Missoula, Montana learning about bikes. It was the enthusiasm of that salesman that started the cycling lifestyle he lives today. Right away he took to road racing. It was the early eighties. Within months he relocated to San Diego California, a hotbed of cycling. While attending college he worked at Zumwalts Cyclery. It is there he began to learn his trade. He soon found his nitch on the Velodromes of Southern California. He rapidly rose to a category 2 track racer. He won many races and place 3rd in the 1986 regional track championships. At this time he began racing mountain bikes also. Mountain biking was in it's infancy and Rick was right there in the thick of things racing often beating the Ross pro's. From there he headed to Connecticut to work and race for Cannondale Corporation. He won many Connecticut State Track Championships (he lapped Doug Day 3 times in the points race). In 1992 he teamed with Doug Day and earned a bronze medal in the Tandem time trial at the Olympic trials. During the late 80's and early 90's he placed well in many track, road, and mountain bike races. He even won a few. In 1990 he left Cannondale briefly to open and manage Westport Bicycles. The year he spent in this position helped him realize the passion he had for retail. He returned to Cannondale to work in research and development. His primary responsibilities were to test and approve component specifications for bicycles. How about that, testing bikes for a living. In the Spring of 1993 he left Cannondale and opened Cycle Fitness. His store has sold over 10,0000 bicycles and serviced even more. "I love my job and see myself working until I'm at least 85" says Rick.Contact Rick in sales by email...click here. |

MikeMike Savage is one of the most passionate cyclists you will ever meet. He is also one of the best and most knowledgeable bicycle mechanics in New England. He has a vast knowledge of vintage equipment to the most modern hydraulic systems. In the last quarter century he has built and fixed it all. Mike has been racing BMX for 27 years, starting in 1980 at the young age of 13. Everyday after school and all summer he would practice for as long as he could. Growing up he hitched rides with other racers and his parents to BMX races. He was hooked on it years before he even started racing. When he did start racing he was a natural and did very well. Mike became a full time world champion racer in 1996 and was dedicated employee at CT Bike Shop in Bristol for 22 years. From there he went to Rad Robs in Shelton where he turned wrenches for 2 ½ years. Now he has made his final landing at Cycle Fitness.
